Purpose
Nature and Scope
Duties and Responsibilities
- Directs a crew involved in the installation, testing and maintenance of relays and protective systems associated with the generation, distribution and transmission systems ranging from 4 to 230 kV.
- Performs and directs the skilled testing and maintenance work on protective and supervisory control systems associated with SMUDs generating, transforming and transmitting facilities.
- Performs and directs the installation, field testing, adjustment, servicing and preventive maintenance of protective relay equipment and relay carriers, supervisory equipment, remote and local control devices, and associated wiring and station apparatus. This includes the installation of new equipment requiring a DCN package and coordination with Engineers and Craftsmen from other disciplines.
- Receives, reviews and executes clearances in accordance with SMUD’s Safe Clearance Procedures.
- Reviews schematics for system and subsystem effectiveness.
- Integrates work with and may perform work on associated communications and instrumentation systems.
- Inspects completed work for adherence to established SMUD standards and specifications.
- Performs related Electrical Technician work as required.
Required Experience Qualifications
Minimum of two (2) years experience as a journey Electrical Technician; progressively responsible experience testing, installing, and maintaining electrical protective relay systems used for protecting and controlling electrical utility generation, transmission, and, distribution systems.
