With solid UX design skills, methods and tools, you’re gifted at making the complex clear with your deliverables. You are confident presenting to stakeholders using persona storytelling to build stakeholder empathy, align to business goals and finalize design with a shared vision.
Our ideal candidate will have delivered highly engaging, end-to-end cross-channel, brand-seamless experiences leveraging highly complex integrated backend enterprise, cloud and SaaS integrations.
The Team:
The Digital & User Experience (DUX) at SMUD is made up of a talented set of people with specialties in UX/UI design, user research, analysis and reporting, content, digital engagement and marketing technologies. We design and enhance experiences for inbound and outbound digital channels supporting agile product teams within an enterprise portfolio delivery organization. We also manage the day-to-day operations for email, SMS, corporate, marketing and SaaS website content management.

Purpose
Assumes responsibility for the development and implementation of UX strategies, foundational technology and tactics across SMUD's digital channels to support our customer experience goals and 3 year operational plans; responsible for adoption, engagement, satisfaction and retention of digital tools.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of functions to support new development, enhancements, overall performance or maintenance of internal and external digital channels and systems including corporate and transactional websites, Intranet and applications, third-party SaaS solutions, email, SMS and social media.
- Ensures that our digital channels meet SMUD's business goals, brand, strategic and legal requirements.
- Adheres to department workflows or processes to assure quality prior to delivery or deployment; ensures all deliverables are tracked, reviewed, tested, approved and delivered on schedule; resolves issues related to the design, functionality, development or content for digital channels; develops recommendations and produces associated deliverables for architecture, user flows, design, analytics tracking and content.
- Provides setup, support, installation and/or ongoing operations and maintenance for tools such as CMS/CX experience management platform, digital asset management, email campaign and other management tools.
- Identify opportunities to expand self-service utilization and functionality, personalization to key customer segments and content engagement through the use of qualitative and quantitative customer insights such as feedback surveys, market research studies, task or intent surveys, usability testing, A/B or multivariate testing and customer service calls.
- Coordinates content, design, or technical functions needed to support key campaigns, 3 or 5 year strategic goals or user experience strategy working with other Digital and User Experience staff and other business unit partners.
- Continually updates, maintains and communicates changes to affected work areas in a timely manner.
- Oversees and guides the user experience implementation of third-party tools and SaaS solutions to ensure a seamless, personalized and mobile-friendly experience is achieved.
- Works as a subject-matter expert in a specialized channel or discipline and helps Strategic Planners, Marketing or other departments develop ideas, creative solutions and refine strategies and business plans for achieving value and ease of use for our digital customer.
- Communicates and interprets industry trends, impacts, and early warning signals of customer issues and expectations; develops strategies for dealing with these; understands implications of external situations, internal impacts and events.
- Compiles data from various sources to assist in developing, monitoring, reporting and analysis of performance measurements, metrics, and KPI's to monitor effectiveness and communicate progress of adoption, engagement, satisfaction, usability and retention goals.
- Performs related duties as required.
Required Education
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in design or digital media, user experience, human factors/information design, marketing or a related field or equivalent experience. If no degree, a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience is required.
Required Experience Qualifications
- Three or more (3+) years of progressively responsible relevant experience working in a digital, web or user experience department focused on UX or channel management and operations.

Plan the efficient use of SMUD's digital channels; establish and maintain an effective tracking system for performance and utilization; interpret and apply technical material to the user experience design of SMUD web sites; understand utilization performance measures, metrics and industry trends; work with individuals or a team to create digital content; monitor best-in-class digital experiences; share utility trends, anticipate, identify, and resolve problems; plan and organize work to meet changing priorities and deadlines; operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications; prepare clear and concise reports; communicate effectively orally and in writing internally/externally; establish and maintain effective working relationships internally/externally.
Desirable Qualifications
- Knowledge of UI/UX best practices for software/platform application design, interface design, web development practices and technologies/web services, SDLC, Lean Management, agile, scrum related best practices.
- Experience with ERP business management application software environments, specifically SAP CRM or designing for SaaS feature integration.
- Utility or energy industry experience is a strong plus.
